Chicken Momos

Chicken Momos are a popular and delicious snack originating from Tibet and widely loved across India. These steamed dumplings filled with spiced minced chicken are perfect for any occasion. Serve them with spicy red chili or green chutney for an added flavor boost.

Equipment

  • 1 Steamer
  • 1 Mixing bowls
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Chopping board
  • Pan (for frying, if desired)

Ingredients
  

For Dough

  • 2 Cups All-purpose flour (Maida)
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • Water as needed to knead

For Filling

  • 250 g Minced chicken
  • 1 Medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp Ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 Green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup Fresh coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp Soy sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp Oil

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Dough:
    In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, salt, and oil. Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough.Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  • Prepare the Filling:
    In another bowl, combine minced chicken, chopped onion, ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, coriander leaves, soy sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  • Shape the Momos:
    Roll out small balls of dough into thin circles.Place a spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of each circle.Fold and pleat the edges to form dumplings. You can shape them as half-moons or round dumplings.
  • Steam the Momos:
    Heat a steamer and place the momos in it.Steam the momos for 10-15 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked and the outer dough is firm and translucent.
  • Serve:
    Serve the hot chicken momos with spicy red chutney or green chutney.

Notes

  • You can also pan-fry or deep-fry the momos for a crispy version.
  • Add more vegetables like cabbage or carrot to the filling for a healthy twist.
  • If you don’t have a steamer, use a large pot with a trivet or plate inside and cover with a lid.
